This is a delicious way of eating beef and vegetables. Fried beef that is covered with a secret ingredient, sweet rice flour, along with a garlic chive salad and savory sweet and sour dressing tastes very good. I made a batch of the beef, as called out in this recipe, then my husband finished it quickly and asked for more. 🙂 My husband usually doesn’t like raw cabbage, raw onions, or raw garlic chives. It would seem as though he wouldn’t like this food, but instead, he loved eating all of those raw vegetables because the delicious beef and special dressing match perfectly with the vegetables. It was another big hit for our supper. Try it someday. 🙂

Main Ingredients
- ½ Pound Beef (⅛ tsp Salt, ⅛ tsp Black Pepper)
- ¼ Cup Sweet Rice Flour
- 2 Cups Garlic Chives
- ½ Cup Cabbage
- ¼ Cup Red Sweet Pepper
- ¼ Cup Onion
- Some Cooking Oil for Frying
- Some Sesame Seeds (for Garnish)
Dressing Ingredients
Directions
Obtain about ½ pound of beef (1 cup). I used steak for this recipe. Trim away any fat and slice it into nice bite sized pieces. You will get about 30 pieces. Place the beef on a flat plate in a single layer to season them evenly.
Sprinkle ⅛ tsp each of salt and black pepper to both sides of the beef evenly. Sprinkle half that amount on the top of the pieces and flip them over and sprinkle the rest on the back of the pieces.
Mix all the ingredients for the dressing. Cover it with plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator before serving. This sauce recipe is plenty for 2 servings, so you can make more beef and garlic chive salad if you want.
Cut 2 cups of garlic chives into 1½-inch pieces. Cut ½ cup worth of cabbage, ¼ cup worth of red sweet pepper, and ¼ cup worth of onion into 1½-inch thin strips. You can adjust the amount of each vegetable ingredient or use any other vegetables that you like such as lettuce, cucumber, Perilla leaves, etc.
I love to eat raw onions, however some people might find the flavor too strong. To reduce that strong flavor, you can soak the chopped onion in ice water (or very cold water) for some time.
Mix all the chopped vegetables in a bowl so that they will be evenly mixed for serving.
Put about ¼ cup of sweet rice flour on a flat plate. Sweet rice flour gives great flavor and a nice chewy/crunch texture to the beef, so it is the best flour to use for this recipe. However, if yo do not have any, you can use cornstarch or normal wheat flour instead.
Cover both sides of each piece of the beef with the sweet rice flour.
Preheat a pan with a generous (1½ Tbsp) amount of cooking oil. Place the beef in the heated pan and fry for about 10 minutes on medium.
When one side becomes golden brown, flip it over and cook the other side until it becomes golden brown. Each side will take about 5 minutes.
To serve it, put some of the garlic chive mixture in the center of a large plate. Surround the salad with the fried beef.
Pour some of the chilled dressing on the salad and serve it. You can serve a small dish of additional dressing separately so that your guests can add a little more to each bite according to their tastes.
I love this colorful dish that is full of great flavor. If I have special guests over for a meal, this will be definitely one of my choices for the menu. Enjoy! 🙂

Hi Aeri
Great job. Your cooking instructions are fantastic. Thank you so much.
Could I ask you if I have private parties and if I want to prepare main dishes and side dishes in much bigger quantities including giving my loved ones for them to bring home, how do I estimate how much ingredients for preparation since its for bigger quantity? And also, how long can all these side dishes be kept in the fridge? How soon must it be consumed in order not to waste it? As we are living in a busy world, all these side dishes really can help save our cooking time daily. I really hope I can find all these ingredients in Singapore as I am a Korean food lover
Appreciate your advice. Thank you.
Yours truly
Jen

hi Jen,
I think this is the same message you left with the other one. My answer for this particular dish is.. it is not something you keep in the refrigerator.. it is the best to eat just the same day you cook. thanks
