Hey everyone! Today, I’m excited to share with you how to make one of my favorite easy and delicious snacks: Spam Musubi. This popular Hawaiian treat combines savory Spam with rice and fried eggs, all wrapped up in crispy dried laver. It’s perfect for a quick lunch or a picnic and is super easy to make at home. So, let’s dive in and make some Spam Musubi together!

Main Ingredients:
- 1 Can Spam (7 oz)
- 4 Eggs (4 Pinches Salt)
- 2 Sheets Dried Laver for Kimbap
Rice Seasoning Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Cooked Short Grain Rice
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2 tsp Sesame Seeds
- 2 Pinches Salt
Sauce Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp Green Hot Pepper
- ½ tsp Lemon Juice
- ½ tsp Sugar
Directions
First, get a can of Spam (7oz). I recommend using Spam Light because it’s not too greasy or salty. With a small can, you won’t need a separate spam musubi mold.
Slice the Spam into pieces about ¼ inch thick. You can use a knife, but a ham slicer makes it easier to cut evenly.
Cook 4 slices of Spam in a preheated pan until both sides are nicely browned.
While the Spam is cooking, let’s prepare the eggs. Crack 4 eggs into a bowl, add 4 pinches of salt, and mix well.
Lightly oil a heated pan and pour in half of the egg mixture.
Once it starts to set, fold the egg to match the width of the Spam.
After the eggs are cooked, let them cool slightly and cut them to the same size as the Spam slices.
Now, let’s season the rice. In 2 cups of cooked short grain rice, mix 1 Tbsp of sesame oil, 2 pinches of salt, and 2 tsp of sesame seeds.
Divide the seasoned rice into 8 portions.
Take 2 sheets of dried laver and cut each in half lengthwise.
Place the musubi mold on a flat surface and spread ¼ cup of rice on the bottom.
Add a piece of the cooked egg on top of the rice.
Place a slice of Spam on top of the egg.
Add another ¼ cup of rice on top of the Spam and spread it evenly.
Press the rice firmly with the mold press.
Remove the mold, and ta-da! Your musubi is almost ready.
Place a piece of dried laver on a flat surface and position the musubi about 1.5 inch from the edge.
Roll the musubi tightly with the dried laver.
Dab a little water on the edge of the dried laver to seal it.
For a dipping sauce, mix together 2 Tbsp of mayonnaise, 2 Tbsp of green hot pepper, ½ tsp of lemon juice, and ½ tsp of sugar.
If you don’t have a musubi mold, you can use the Spam can.
Line the inside of the can with plastic wrap, then layer rice,
egg,
Spam,
and rice in that order.
Lift it out with the plastic wrap
and follow the same steps to wrap with dried laver.
Finally, dab a little water on the edge of the dried laver to seal it.
Cut the musubi into bite-sized pieces and serve them beautifully with the sauce. If you prefer, you can wrap the musubi tightly in plastic wrap for an easy portable snack.
