Taco salad is a favorite food of mine that I learned to make from my mother in law. Homemade tortillas, taco seasoned beef, beans, lettuce, onions, cheese, and the french salad dressing. Oh, the combination of those flavors is awesome. @.@ Yesterday, we ate this for supper, and it was very delicious, as always. I guessed somebody might want the recipe for this food, so I post pictures with recipe. Enjoy!
Yield: 2-3 Servings
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Ground Beef
- ½ Iceberg Lettuce
- ¼ Red Onion
- 1 Can Refried Pinto Beans or Kidney Beans
- 1 Tbsp Taco Seasoning (2 Tbsp Water)
- 1 Tomato
- Hot Sauce to Taste
Dough Ingredients:
- 1½ Cup Flour
- ½ Cup Water
- 3 tsp Olive Oil
- ⅛ tsp Salt
Directions
In a bowl, combine 1½ cup of flour, 3 tsp of olive oil, ? tsp of salt, and ½ cup of water. Mix the ingredients with a fork.
Then knee the dough for at least 5 minutes.
Wrap the dough with plastic wrap and then put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
Chop ½ of a head of iceberg lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
Cube ¼ of an onion.
Divide the dough into 4 or 6 pieces. Cover the dough pieces with plastic wrap so they will not dry out.
Roll out the dough thinly.
Fry it on slightly oiled pan, until both sides become golden brown.
In a pan, add 1 cup of ground beef. Fry the beef, until it becomes brown, and then add 1 Tbsp of taco seasoning.
Add 2 Tbsp of water and cook until the beef is completely cooked.
Cook 1 can of re-fried beans for several minutes until they become warm.
Put 2 or 3 sheets of tortillas on a plate. You can break them apart for easier eating.
Add some beans and cooked beef on top.
Sprinkle on some shredded taco cheese.
Add lettuce, onions, and diced tomatoes on top. Tomatoes were not in season, so I skipped them.
Finally, add the french dressing and hot sauce if you like.
Enjoy!

can i come live with you?!? hehe
this looks really good! i am going to try to make the fresh tortillas since i always buy mine.
my kids like it when i make quesadilla. you take 2 tortiallas (taco shells). put one in a pan put taco cheese, grilled chicken, and green onions and put the other tortilla on top. cook both sides till the cheese is melted inside. when its done – slice and eat. i use taco sauce to dip. 🙂 YUMMY!

You can use a clean, damp dishcloth instead of plastic wrap in keeping the dough moist. Thanks for the recipe!

Hi Aeri–did you knead the dough on a very floured cutting board? I kneaded in the mixing bowl and it was very sticky, even after adding 3 tablespoons of flour over twenty minutes of kneading. Are those the correct measurements for the tortilla dough? ❓

hi Katharine in Brussels,

you can see what kind of board I use for kneading from this recipe. I don’t need any extra flour when i use it.
I looked the recipe again.. and it should be right.. 1 and half cups of flour.. half cup water… sorry for poor answer..

You can make your own hot sauce with tomato, onion, hot chilli, garlic and salt. I think it would be tastier 😉 To make the sauce first you have to cook the tomatoes with the chillies and a pinch of salt in boling water, when the tomatoes start to peel, put them in a blender together with the chillis, onion, garlic and a bit more of salt, add about a cup of the water you used to cook the tomatoes and the chillies. Be carefull, when you add hot water in a blender, it will spill out everywere and you may get burned. You can wait till the water gets a bit cold or you can put a towel covering the blender, so that if it spills you won’t get burned 😉 I know hundreds of ways of making delicious sauces, please, feel free to tell me if you’re interested in one 😉 Oh! by the way, about the quantities, with 5 tomatoes and 3-4 chillis you will get a really spicy sauce 😀
