My family and I went on a family vacation to Jeju Island in Korea. Jeju Island is like a Korean Hawaii. hehe… After we landed in Jeju, the first place we went to was a flea market. This is the entrance picture. Some taxis are waiting for customers in front of it.
The inside was larger and more modernized that I expected. You can see Korean style pots and dishes made with clay. They were absolutely beautiful. Can you see me in the picture? π
Since I love cooking tools and dishes, it was torturing to only do window shopping. Anyway, they had many different sizes and colors of small pigs. In Korea, pigs are a symbol of good fortune.
You can see the clay pots that I use for cooking soups. Since they are slow to heat and cool, they are very good to use for cooking and serving soup. If I could, I would bring many~~~ different kinds of pots to USA. hehe… The vases for decoration also very beautiful.
Koreans eat many kinds of grains and beans. You might be surprise how many grains some Korean people mix to make their rice – sometime more than 20 grains. haha… Someday, I will show you different kinds of cooked rice with other grains. They are selling grains, beans, sesame seeds, dried vegetables, etc in the picture.
These are dried seafood, fishes, and some nuts. We eat dried seafood or fish for a side-dish, soup, or when drinking. Roasted peanuts, dried squid, and dried anchovies are examples of a food people eat when drinking din Korea. Of course, we can just eat them for snacks also. I don’t drink, but I like the dried seafood for a snack. π
This market had almost everything one needs for living, here is a shop selling shoes and bags. Since this place is more for older people than young people, they weren’t that fashionable, but I wanted to show you. hehe
There were a lot of spring plants and flowers. Jeju Island is in the southeast of the country, so spring arrives here first. I could feel spring in the air already from these pretty flowers. Those cute tiny rabbits were sleeping.
They also are selling different kinds of kimchi, pickled side-dishes, various vegetables, and seafood side-dishes. Wow, everything looked very~~~ yummy. Very authentic, and fresh. I realized again that I’m in Korea. hehe
Sorry for blurry picture. π₯ This is a type of street vendor – they were selling hoddeok, Korean style donuts, etc. Recently, I tried my mother-in-law’s homemade donuts, and oh, they tasted almost the same with these donuts in Korea. Maybe we got donuts from America after the Korean war. (Just a guess.) We bought some hoddeok and other fried things. My husband loved the hoddeok. haha … Before he didn’t try hoddeok from Korea (just mine,) so this was a chance for him to try it. Oops, what if he likes this one better than mine? Should I stop him from trying other Korean food during this trip? hehe … joke … I was happy because he enjoyed some Korean food.
I almost shouted “WOW” when I looked at their fresh vegetables. In my mind, I remembered the moments when I had difficulty finding some vegetables and other Korean ingredients in America. I just wanted to buy them all. hehe … Very good prices and very fresh. I hope you enjoyed these pictures. I will share more later. Thanks!!!
