There are many different kinds of DeopBap in Korea. Today, I will show you how to make one of them. Wait, you may start to wonder what is DeopBaps. hehe… It is a type of food that is served with some food (usually meat, vegetables, and/or sauce) on top of rice, and you mix it all together before eating. SoGoGi DeopBap is a non-spicy type of DeaopBap with a beef topping. The beef has a bulgogi flavor, and there are many different kinds of vegetables in this dish. Later, I will post more types of DeopBap.

Video Instructions
Main Ingredients
- 3 Cups Cooked Short Grain Rice
- ½ Cup Onion
- ⅔ Cup Zucchini
- ½ Cup Carrot
- 2 Green Onions
- 3 Button Mushrooms
- ½ Cup Sweet Peppers (Optional)
- 1 or 2 Hot Peppers (Optional)
Beef Ingredients
- 10.5 oz (1½ Cups) Beef
- ¼ Onion
- ½ Asian Pear
- 1 Tbsp Cooking Wine (optional)
- 3 or 4 Garlic Cloves
- 2½ Tbsp Soy Sauce
- ½ Tbsp Sugar
- ½ Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 3 Pinches Black Pepper
- 1 Pinch Ginger Powder
Sauce Ingredients
- ⅔ Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- ½ Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 tsp Sesame Seeds
- 1½ tsp Minced Garlic
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 3 Pinches Black Pepper
Starch Mixture
- ½ Cup Water
- 1 Tbsp Corn Starch (or Potato Starch)
Directions
Prepare 1½ cups of thinly sliced beef. You can use whatever cut of beef that you like. This time, I used a London broil.
Cut ¼ of an onion and ½ of an Asian pear. Peal 3 or 4 cloves of garlic.
In a mixer, add the onion, pear, garlic, 2½ Tbsp of soy sauce, ½ Tbsp of sugar, ½ Tbsp of sesame oil, 3 pinches of black pepper, and 1 pinch of ginger powder. Grind them together.
Pour the mixture into the beef. Tip: If you have some leftover marinated beef (bulgogi) or frozen bulgogi, you can just use them instead of preparing this meat.
Mix the beef and sauce together. Cover it with plastic wrap and let if marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Cut ½ of an onion, ⅔ cup worth of a zucchini, ½ cup worth of a carrot, 2 green onions, 3 mushrooms, ½ cup worth of a sweet pepper (optional), and 1 or 2 hot peppers (optional).
In a pan, add 2 Tbsp of oil. Once the pan is heated, add 1½ tsp of minced garlic. Fry it for 10 second on medium. Add the onion, carrot, zucchini, and sweet peppers. Fry for 1 to 2 more minutes on medium-high.
Add the marinated beef and the rest of the ingredients for the sauce: ⅔ Tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, ½ Tbsp sesame oil, 1 tsp sesame seeds, ¼ tsp salt, and 3 pinches black pepper.
To make the starch mixture, mix ½ cup water and 1 Tbsp of corn starch (or potato starch). This mixture will help make the sauce thicker.
When the beef is half cooked, pour the starch mixture in it. Cook it until the beef is completely cooked on medium-high.
Add the chopped mushrooms and green onions. Cook for 3 more minutes on high.
If you like your food spicy, like me, add some hot peppers when you add the mushrooms and green onions. It is optional.
It is done.
To serve, place one cup of cooked rice on a plate for each serving.
Pour the cooked beef and vegetables on top of the rice. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. Enjoy~~

Hello Aeri! I’m a recent fan of your blog and videos. ^^ I have yet to try making your dishes, but I’ve been compiling the recipes so I can go buy the ingredients properly, and hopefully I won’t be too bad with it when I get around to cooking your dishes. ^^;;
But my question is.. many of your dishes have zucchini in it. I am aware Koreans tend to use this in several Korean dishes, but would it be okay for me to use guava instead? I know that sounds a little far out there, but I suddenly thought it would taste really well with the beef. Let me know what you think of this crazy idea!

hi Lu,
Nice to meet you.
Oh~~ I’m sure that you will make delicious Korean food. 😀
About your question, I’ve never tried guava before.. so I can’t tell it with confidence. Sorry about that.. maybe you can try it someday..and let me know the result.. ? hehe

Thanks for this recipe – I just googled it and found your site. I was surprised how easy it was to make, which is wonderful as I miss Korean food a lot. I am just happy that I have kimchi to go with it!

Hi Aeri,
Thanks for this recipe! It was easy to follow and I cooked it tonight successfully! Love referring to your recipes especially the Korean dishes because they are expensive to eat in restaurants here.
