This is an easy meal to prepare. The most time consuming part is browning the hamburger.
Yield: 8 Servings
Short Korean Lesson
- DaeSeoYang (대서양) = Atlantic Ocean
- TaePyeongYang (태평양) = Pacific Ocean
Main Ingredients
- 4 lb. Ground Beef
- 2 Cups Onion (Chopped)
- 2 Cans Vegetable Broth (14.5 oz cans)
- 1 Can Beef Broth (14.5 oz can)
- ⅔ Cup Cornstarch
- 2 tsp Gravy Master or Sempio YounDoo
- 1 tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Pepper
- 1 tsp Green Tabasco Sauce
Directions
Fry 4 pounds of ground beef until partly brown. Add 2 cups of chopped onion, then finish browning the hamburger.
Add 2 cans of vegetable broth and 1 can of beef broth.
Mix ⅔ cup cornstarch with just enough water to thin it. Slowly add it to the hamburger to thicken the broth. Be sure to stir the hamburger while adding the cornstarch. Continue stirring until thick.
Add 2 tsp master gravy, 1 tsp salt, ¼ tsp pepper, and optional 1 tsp green Tabasco sauce: or adjust the seasoning to your liking.
Spread the gravy over bread or toast. We prefer French or Italian bread.
We also like hamburg gravy on mashed potatoes or pancakes. Add some vegetables and fruit, and you have a meal. Give it a try.

My stepdad loves to make this dish for us and he said they always had this when he was in the military and called it “SOS”. 😛

The timing for this posting is excellent. 😀 I had bought some ground beef earlier and was thinking of finding a different way – for me – to prepare it. (Aeri, while I was at the local Hmart today, I forgot to purchase the Sempio YounDoo. 🙁 )

This is a very versatile dish. I originally made it with the addition of some fresh mushrooms (sliced) and Sriracha in place of the green Tabasco sauce. Served it on French bread and over noodles. Added some cooked rice to the leftovers to use as a basis for stuffed peppers. Even used some as a ‘spiced beef’ topping for a pizza. 🙂

I’m going to make this for a second time tonight. It’s our favorite quick meal!
We love to use a whole habanero instead of the chili sauce (we love ours extra spicy). And we like to add peas and mushrooms to the mix. We also substitute out the ground beef for ground turkey to make it more healthy and it taste amazing.
Thank you for sharing!
