In Korea, the radish (Daikon=Japanese name) is called JoSeonMu (조선무), it is often pickled, and used in a variety of kimchi called kkakdugi (깍두기). One of the most popular varieties of pickled daikon, called danmuji (단무지) in Korean, is usually bright yellow in color and is sometimes used in sushi or kimbap (김밥). Daikon is very low in food energy. A 3 ounce (85 g) serving contains only 18 Calories (75 kJ) and provides 34 percent of the RDA for vitamin C. Daikon also contains the active enzyme myrosinase that aids digestion, particularly of starchy foods.

Aeri. I am going to buy some seed of korean radish exactly Beak Tea brand. I would like to grow them in my garden. Unfortunately There is no much information common known about raising of it. Could you give me some several practical clues regarding: raising process as sow time, harvest time and storage afterwards. Many thanks
Aeri Lee says
hi Kris,
We’ve planted some kind of korean radishes that you eat mainly the leaves and stems..for 2 years. But we didn’t try to plant this big radish yet. I did some research for you, they say.. you can plant the radish twice a year.. spring and fall.. in the srping..you sow early april and harvest end may… so it takes about 2 months until harvest.. and in the fall.. you sow early september and harvest end november.. but it’s in Korean weather.. so depending on where you live.. it can be different. Radish don’t like too hot weather.. you plant 10 inches between each one.. I mean.. distance between … I hope my answer helped you a little.. good luck for your gardening and let me know your result. 😀 We love to plant our own vegetables but this year we will not have enough time to do it because of our baby.. so hopefully next year we can have some fresh vegetables from our garden.. hehe

Thx Aeri. I bought the seeds and I am going to sow soon. Afterall if I fail or manage I will tell you.

Hi Aeri..can i replace korean radish with chinese radish instead? thank you! love your recipes. 🙂
Aeri Lee says
hi Stephanie,
I already tried Chinese radish and found out that their texture and flavor are a little different from Korean radish. If that’s only your choice, you can use Chinese radish..but if you can find Korean radish, I recommend you to use Korean radish for my recipes..since that will be more authentic. 🙂
