A deep fried sweet potato dish called GoGuMa TwiGim (고구마 튀김) is a popular street food in Korean. Some Koreans make it at home, but since it is a deep fried food, and you have to deal with the leftover frying oil, it is not always an easy option to choose. (I already shared the recipe before, so you can check it out.) Therefore, we make it as a simpler version pan frying them instead, which I’m going to teach you how to do in this post. I seasoned the sweet potatoes for use as a side dish, but you can also enjoy it as a snack food. The slightly sweet and salty flavor, along with its crispy and soft texture make it a great dish.

Main Ingredients:
- 2 Sweet Potatoes (12 oz)
- ⅔ Cup Frying Mix
- ⅓ Cup All Purpose Flour
- ¾ Cup Water
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- ½ tsp Salt
Directions
Here are all the ingredients we need for this recipe.
Peel 2 sweet potatoes and slice them into ¼-inch slices. You will get about 3 dozen sweet potato pieces.
Add ⅔ cup of frying mix, ⅓ cup of all purpose flour, and ½ tsp of flour in a mixing bowl. Mix it all together. These are the Korean frying and Korean pancake mixes that I normally use. You can use one cup of each of them, or just use normal wheat flour for this recipe.
Pour ¾ cup of water into the flour and mix it well. The consistency of the batter should be like this.
Put all the sweet potato slices in the batter.
Completely cover each piece of sweet potato with the batter.
Then place it on a heated nonstick pan with a generous amount of cooking oil. Use the same process for the other sweet potato pieces.
Fry each side for about 5 minutes on medium. Look at the golden brown color of this jeon.
After 10 minutes, the sweet potatoes will be well done. To check, you can poke the center of the sweet potato with a chopstick or a fork.
These are already seasoned well enough, so you do not need any dipping sauce. Serve them as a snack or as a side dish. They taste great both hot and cool. Please try them someday. You will love them.
