Video Instructions
Main Ingredients:
- 2 Chicken Breasts (1½ lb)
- ⅓ Cup Frying Mix or All-Purpose Flour
- Cooking Oil (for frying)
- 8-9 Bamboo Skewers
Chicken Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- ⅛ tsp Salt
- ⅛ tsp Black Pepper
Sauce Ingredients:
- ¼ Cup Ketchup
- 6 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or substitute honey or sugar)
- 2 Tbsp Water
- 1½ Tbsp Hot Pepper Paste (Gochujang)
- 1 Tbsp Hot Pepper Powder (Gochutgaru)
- 1 Tbsp Katsu Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar (Optional)
- 1 Tbsp Garlic, Minced
- 1 Tbsp Onion, Grated
- 2 tsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tsp Sesame Seeds
Directions
Prepare 2 chicken breasts.
Start by cutting the chicken (about 1½ lb) into small pieces, around 1×1 inch. You don’t want them too thick, just bite-sized.
Then, season the chicken with ⅛ tsp salt, ⅛ tsp black pepper, and 1 Tbsp olive oil. Mix it all together and let it sit for about 5 minutes to marinate.
Get about 8-9 bamboo skewers, each about 9 inches long.
Then, put around 8 pieces of chicken on each skewer.
Next, coat the chicken pieces in ⅓ cup frying mix or flour. Make sure each piece is well coated.
Heat some cooking oil in a pan on medium heat. You want enough oil to fry the chicken so it gets nice and crispy.Once the oil is hot, add the chicken pieces.
Fry them for about 13-15 minutes, flipping them occasionally to make sure they cook evenly on all sides.
You want them golden brown and crispy! Once the chicken is done, remove it from the pan and set it aside.
While the chicken is frying, let’s make the sauce. In another pan, combine ¼ cup ketchup, 6 Tbsp corn syrup, 2 Tbsp water, 1½ Tbsp hot pepper paste (gochujang), 1 Tbsp hot pepper powder (gochugaru), 1 Tbsp katsu sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar (optional), 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp grated onion, 2 tsp soy sauce, and 1 tsp sesame seeds.
Stir it all together and bring it to a boil. Let it cook for about 3 minutes, so it thickens up a bit.
Now, put the fried chicken right into the sauce. Use a brush to coat each piece with the sauce, making sure it’s all evenly covered.
And that’s it! Your savory Korean chicken skewers are ready to serve, with a deliciously rich sauce. I hope you enjoyed this recipe—don’t forget to like and subscribe for more tasty dishes. See you next time!
