This is gourmet seasoning sauce. It is naturally brewed soy sauce added with the boiled down natural sauce from cooking onions, ginger, garlic, pears, apples, beef, etc. This one is specially good for soup or stew. I already tried it for my seaweed soup. I basically made the soup in the same way, but reduced the normal soy sauce amount and added some of this seasoning in place of the missing soy sauce. It turned out pretty good, so I’m going to use it for different kinds of soups and stews later. You can think of it like this – in a well flavored dish, you can add extra flavor to make it even more tasty. Sometimes if you don’t have enough time to make your own broth, as many of my recipes ask for, you can get a similar flavoring from simply using this seasoning sauce. It is a shortcut for a quick and easy dish. Hehe, that doesn’t mean skip making broth all of the time though, because making your own broth give you the best flavor for your dish. =P Anyway, I was happy about the result, so try it someday if you can find it in a Korean grocery store. This is especially for soup and stew. It has seafood extract in it, you will not like this particular flavor of sauce if you are a vegetarian or do like seafood.
Cucumber NaengGuk
오이 냉국, OI NaengGuk

This cold cucumber side dish, 오이 냉국, is a very refreshing summer dish. It is delicious with both cooked rice and noodles. Cucumbers and cold water seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and sesame seeds tastes cool and delicious. You can add soaked dried seaweed (미역=MiYeok=Wakame) also.

Quail Egg JangJoRim
메추리알 장조림, MeChuRiAl JangJoRim

Jorim is a Korean name for a type of cooking which means, “food in a boiled-down soy sauce or other seasonings.” This quail egg side dish is a simple version of JangJoRim, which is made using soy sauce. You can use beef, pork, mushrooms, etc. for jangjorim, and I already posted the beef jangjorim dish before. This tastes similar to meat jangjorim, but it is easier to make and it is good for a meatless diet. The taste combination of the eggs, garlic, peppers, and soy sauce are very delicious. 😀

Egg BokkEumBap
계란 볶음밥, GyeRan BokkEumBap

Egg fried rice (계란 볶음밥, GyeRan BokkEumBap) is a Korean style fried rice dish. It is a very good recipe to try when you do not have enough time, or if you do not feel like cooking much. With only few ingredients such as rice, eggs, and green onions, you can make very tasty meal quickly. This can be used as a main dish with kimchi and other side dishes, or it can be used as a side dish even though it is not an authentic Korean style meal. If you reduce the amount of salt or oil, this can be good for a kid’s meal too. If you do not know what to cook tonight, then maybe you can try this recipe – if you have eggs, rice, and green onions on hand. 😉

Spinach Soybean Paste Guk
시금치 된장국, SiGeumChi DoenJangGuk

This is one of the various types of Korean soybean paste soup using spinach. Soybean paste is a very important ingredient in Korean cuisine. Except for the saltiness, there is some research that shows health benefits from soybean paste. You can adjust the amount of soybean paste for your dish depending on your taste or for your health. This is very easy to make, and of course it is delicious. It is a good soup to go with your daily Korean meal. 😀

Zucchini BuChim
애호박 부침, AeHoBak BuChim

This is a simple version of Korean zucchini fritters. Typically, we cover sliced zucchini pieces with flour, and then dip them into an egg mixture before frying them. However, today I will just dip the zucchini into a flour batter. You can eat these delicious zucchini fritters plain, but slightly dipping them into a soy sauce mixture makes them tasty even better. It is good for a lunch box, party appetizer, or as a side dish for normal meals. If you are a vegan, you can skip the egg and add a little bit more water to the batter. 😀

Korean Style Fruit Salad
과일 샐러드, GwaIl Salad

This is an old fashioned food. It is made from different kinds of fruit, hard-boiled quail eggs, crabsticks, and peanuts, all mixed with mayonnaise. Does it sound weird or interesting to you? =P I guess, when mayonnaise was introduced in Korea, this salad was one of the original uses for it. In Korea, when somebody moves to a new house, they invite family or friends to have a meal together. I remember going to those kinds of parties with my parents many times. Almost every party had this salad. My mom also made it whenever we had a party at our house. As a kid, it was one of my favorite menu items. The fun part of eating this salad was digging to find the best parts: the crab and the eggs. Oops, that does not sound like good table manners, but my excuse is that I was a kid. ㅋㅋㅋ Nowadays, there are many different kinds of fancy salad dressings from the Western world in Korea, so this old fashioned fruit salad is not as common as it was before. However, many people including me still miss this old fashioned salad every now and then. The sweetness from mixed fruits, slight saltiness from the crab sticks, nuttiness from the peanuts, and the egg flavor mix together with mayonnaise equals yummy~~~ Anyway, I was very excited to make this dish and share the recipe with you, because it is delicious and it can be a unique dish to try. I ate and ate after I made it. It was still as delicious as I remembered. @.@ Hehe, I hope you like it too. 😉
