Hi everyone! Today I will introduce you to an addictive or irresistible kimbap. Unlike normal kimbap, it only asks for 3 kinds of filling. The dipping sauce for this kimbap makes it special and delicious. The size is small and good for kids to enjoy. Our boys gave me two thumbs up and kept asking me to give them more. I made 16 pieces and the boys ate all of them. So, I was hungry. lol Next time, I will make sure to double the recipe. hehe The weather is beautiful for a picnic. P.S. In Korea, there isn’t a drug problem like in the USA. So, Koreans don’t think much about calling this specific kimbap as “mayak kimbap” which translates to “Drug kimbap” in English. Since it is too delicious to stop eating, it got the name like that. Since I post this recipe in English, I tried to avoid using the word ‘drug’ in my post. Instead, I called it “addictive kimbap”. Please understand that. 🙂

Today, I will introduce a very popular kimbap in Korea called “Chungmu kimbap.” It is easier to make than normal kimbap and the flavor is awesome. Chungmu kimbap is a local food that originated from one of the Korean cities called Tongyong, but the city was named “Chungmu” when this food was invented. Many people were fishermen in that area. The husbands would go to sea and stayed there all day to catch fish. Wives felt sorry for their husbands who worked hard, but couldn’t eat well while out in the sea. They started to pack lunch boxes for them. Sometimes, they could make normal kimbap, but the ingredients inside of kimbap spoiled easily, so instead they rolled the kimbap with only seasoned rice – with no other filling ingredients – and prepared a delicious side using radish and squid. The spicy, sweet, and savory sauce make the pickled radish and squid a perfect match with the plain rice kimbap. When I read the story of the origin of this Chungmu kimbap, I thought the wives were very sweet and wise. This special kimbap eventually spread all over South Korea and there are many restaurants that specialized in this particular kimbap. Of course, people make it at home too, so try this delicious yet fun kimbap someday at home with your kids. 🙂

Today I will show a shortcut version of bibimbap. In my opinion, the key for delicious bibimbap is the sauce. If the sauce is good, the rest of ingredients do not matter as much. Bibimbap is a dish that has many ingredients and it has complex cooking steps. Instead of preparing 8 to 10 bibimbap ingredients, this recipe will use a smaller list of cooked mung bean sprouts, bulgogi flavored chicken, rice, and a tasty bibimbap sauce. The taste is very good and the presentation of the dish can be very pretty, so it can be an easy dish to serve your guests. 🙂 Try it someday.
