Christmas is coming. Are you ready for the holidays? Many people think of cookies around this time of year. Are you ready to taste the best cookies ever? Have you ever heard of ganjang cookies (soy sauce cookies) before? “Ganjang” is the Korean word for “soy sauce.” My husband had a crazy idea about making cookies using soy sauce. I thought his idea was funny at first. I thought he was joking, but he was serious! lol Right away, he started tasting Sempio’s soy sauce and had a very positive imagination for making delicious cookies with it. So we worked together and made this fabulous Christmas cookie recipe for you. Using soy sauce instead of salt was a great idea for adding extra flavor to the cookies. They are a sweet cookie with extra flavor from cinnamon and ginger. They have a chewy and soft texture. Try these soy sauce cookies this holiday.

This onion bread, called “yangpabbang (양파빵)” in Korean, is my all-time favorite bread. The outside is a little crunchy, while the inside is chewy and soft. The bread has onion, bacon, and cheese inside. A little cheese is melted into golden brown crispy cheese on top of the loaf. It can make a great meal with the addition of a salad or sides. Adults and kids will love the flavor, as my family did. Try it someday. 🙂

When you are alone at home and feel lazy to cook something for your meal, what are your choices? Instant ramen? TV dinners? They don’t sound very healthy. Sandwiches? But, I want something spicy, like some spicy Korean food. Maybe you could skip eating? But oh, how can that even be an option? lol I have a good solution for this dilemma, if you find yourself in such a situation. 😉 Without using the stove or oven, you can prepare this super simple, yet very tasty meal in 5 minutes. 🙂 The cooked rice mixes with the kimchi, tuna, and sesame oil to give you a great taste. I can say that kimchi and tuna are a perfect match. If you love kimchi, like me, please try it someday.

Today, I will introduce a very popular kimbap in Korea called “Chungmu kimbap.” It is easier to make than normal kimbap and the flavor is awesome. Chungmu kimbap is a local food that originated from one of the Korean cities called Tongyong, but the city was named “Chungmu” when this food was invented. Many people were fishermen in that area. The husbands would go to sea and stayed there all day to catch fish. Wives felt sorry for their husbands who worked hard, but couldn’t eat well while out in the sea. They started to pack lunch boxes for them. Sometimes, they could make normal kimbap, but the ingredients inside of kimbap spoiled easily, so instead they rolled the kimbap with only seasoned rice – with no other filling ingredients – and prepared a delicious side using radish and squid. The spicy, sweet, and savory sauce make the pickled radish and squid a perfect match with the plain rice kimbap. When I read the story of the origin of this Chungmu kimbap, I thought the wives were very sweet and wise. This special kimbap eventually spread all over South Korea and there are many restaurants that specialized in this particular kimbap. Of course, people make it at home too, so try this delicious yet fun kimbap someday at home with your kids. 🙂

Today I will show you how to make the Korean steamed egg called “GyeranJjim.” It is very easy to make and it doesn’t take a long time to make, so it is a very popular side dish at home or in a restaurant in Korea. I already posted the original recipe for it using a clay pot and fish sauce (or Salted Shrimp called “saeujeot”) before. For people who don’t have the specific type of clay pot for this dish, I will use a normal sauce pan and a secret ingredient, Sempio Yondu, for great flavor. This soft steamed egg with a savory flavor can be a simple and quick, yet delicious, side for your Korean meal. You should try it someday. 😉

Today, I will share a very simple yet delicious homemade latte using Korean sweet potatoes. Korean sweet potatoes are often used in Korean dessert foods. That is because Korean sweet potatoes have a delicious sweetness and pleasant firm texture. You can make a perfect latte at home without using any special machine to make the cream or foam. The creamy sweet latte with a nice sweet potato flavor and cinnamon is just right for the fall season. If you can get a Korean sweet potato, please try it someday.
